Poğaça
Turkish Poğaça Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg (for the dough)
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
- Filling options: feta cheese, olives, cooked minced meat, or any desired filling
Instructions:
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, warm water, instant yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
-
Add olive oil, salt, and one beaten egg to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
-
Gradually add the flour to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
-
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
-
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
-
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
After the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Divide the dough into equal-sized portions, depending on how big you want your poğaça to be.
-
Flatten each portion of dough with your hands, then place your desired filling in the center. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch to seal, forming a ball shape.
-
Place the filled dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each poğaça.
-
Beat the egg yolk with a little water to make an egg wash. Brush the tops of the poğaça with the egg wash.
-
Bake the poğaça in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
-
Once baked, remove the poğaça from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your freshly baked Turkish poğaça!
